We are delighted to announce that WorkSafe BC rates are going down in 2020 by 3.7 per cent (from 0.81 to 0.78 per cent of employer’s assessable payroll) for BC’s pubs, bars, nightclubs, and lounges.
This rate reduction is a direct result of the good work many members are doing to prevent and manage injuries in their workplaces. By working to keep your employees safe, you’ve helped reduce both the number and cost of claims in our sector. You can find more details about the 2020 preliminary rates here.
We all know the costs of doing business in BC have been increasing dramatically over the past few years. Whether from increases to minimum wage, elimination of the liquor server differential, a new Employer Health Tax, or other increased businesses taxes, BC’s small businesses are struggling under the cumulative load of new and increased costs. This rate reduction on assessable payroll is a small piece of good news to help reward good employers by reducing some of their costs of doing business.
