As many members know, in late 2017 the Attorney General retained Mark Hicken, a long-time wine industry lawyer and expert, as a liquor policy advisor to liaise with industry stakeholders and provide recommendations to government on ways to support BC’s industry.
As a key part of this work, Mr. Hicken is chairing a Business Technical Advisory Panel comprised of industry association stakeholders. Our Executive Director, Jeff Guignard, sits on the panel, which met last week for four days of highly productive deliberations and hearings. Key issues raised included: hospitality pricing, licensee sales, GLS operations, LCLB policy and licensing issues, LDB distribution and delivery, and industry social responsibility.
The panel will be meeting again in April to finalize its report and recommendations to government. Currently, we are very encouraged by the level of engagement and consensus among industry stakeholders. We commend government for convening this panel and look forward to its future work.
We will share more details on the panel’s progress as they become available.
