On January 10, 2018, the LCLB released a new Policy Directive regarding Special Event Permit Exemptions. Download the directive here.

Under the new policy, the LCLB general manager may exempt Special Event Permit (SEP) holders from donating event profits to charity, if the event is of a municipal, provincial, national, or international significance.

Qualifying events must meet the following criteria:

  1. Participants and performers at the event are primarily from around the province, Canada, or the world;
  2. The event attracts spectators from around the province, Canada, or the world;
  3. There is provincial, national, or international media coverage of the event.

The LCLB explains that this policy change was made to support the music industry in BC.
