BC General Election: Saturday, October 19, 2024 The 2024 provincial general election is this Saturday, October 19. This pivotal election could significantly impact our industry, so whoever you choose to vote for, please go out and vote. |
|
|
As you know, ABLE BC’s Executive Director, Jeff Guignard, our Board of Directors, and several members have been actively engaging with candidates across the province to share our key messages and help them understand our industry’s needs. ABLE BC’s success depends on support from our members.
Thank you to everyone who has helped spread our message, met with a candidate, or attended one of our Election Advocacy 101 sessions. We also want to thank members who contributed financially to our Election Advocacy Fund, allowing us to expand our advocacy efforts during the campaign. No matter who wins the election on Saturday, ABLE BC will continue to engage directly with newly elected MLAs on key issues important to private liquor stores, pubs and bars, and private cannabis stores. We will also be tracking the appointment of Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Official Opposition Critics, and senior staff.
MLAs will be sworn in several weeks after election day, and at that point will begin performing their official duties. Once the new government is in place, the Lieutenant Governor opens the first session of the legislature with a Speech from the Throne, outlining the government's priorities and plans. Questions? Reach out to ABLE BC's Executive Director, Jeff Guignard, at jeff@ablebc.ca. |
Update: BC Lotto Issues
The BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) recognizes the interruptions to their hospitality partners’ lottery business, particularly the disablement of the SST Bill Acceptors. BCLC is committed to addressing issues efficiently and fairly, and as a gesture of goodwill will administer top-up payments to those affected. These payments will be processed over the next two weeks.
BCLC retailers will also receive thank-you kits with items to help recognize and thank their dedicated staff and loyal players for their continued understanding, patience, and support. Kits will be shipped between October 16th and November 6th across the province. Your Territory Manager will be in touch with more details. The BCLC team continues to work diligently to improve terminal functionality and expects to provide an update on upcoming changes this week. Click here to read the last update from BCLC.
If you have questions about BCLC, please contact ABLE BC's Executive Director, Jeff Guignard at jeff@ablebc.ca. |
