Dear ABLE BC members and industry colleagues,
I know many of you still have questions about the federal GST holiday, which began at midnight Dec. 14 and continues until Feb. 15. I know some of you probably stayed up late trying to figure it out. Maybe you still haven’t.
Rest assured: in our talks with federal officials and the CRA, it has been clear that government understands this has been confusing and difficult for small businesses, and that there will be mistakes.
It is our understanding that, while the GST holiday is now law, no one is seeking to penalize business doing their best to comply with this temporary change.
I am also aware that some of your wholesale suppliers have indicated they will continue to charge GST during this period, even on qualifying goods. We have made the CRA aware of this issue and are awaiting their feedback.
Over the past weeks, we’ve done our best to help you prepare for this complex temporary change. Click here for our most up-to-date FAQ or here to get it straight from the federal government.
And in case you missed it, here’s the latest memo from LDB Wholesale.
