Dear ABLE BC members and industry colleagues,
Newly appointed Cabinet Ministers and Premier David Eby were sworn in today by Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin. ABLE BC offers our congratulations to Premier Eby and all Ministers.
You can find the new Cabinet Ministers here.
The new Cabinet’s top priorities will be bringing down costs for families, strengthening health care, making communities safer and growing the economy so everyone feels the benefits. Foundational to this work is a commitment to build partnerships with Indigenous communities and take action on climate change, both key to building a more prosperous BC for future generations.
“These are big challenges and tackling them all will take time. Getting there will take listening and learning from British Columbians of different perspectives,” Premier Eby said. “While British Columbians may sometimes disagree, we all want the same basic things in life – a good paycheque, a home we can afford in a safe community and high-quality health care that’s there when we need it. By working together on these common challenges, we can build a brighter future for everyone.”
We look forward to working with new and familiar Ministers in the months ahead, in particular Gary Begg, BC's new Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. We'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mike Farnworth, who was BC's longest serving Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, for his support of the private liquor and cannabis industry and the progress he helped ABLE BC usher in for our members. We wish him well in his new role of Transportation Minister.
Adrian Dix, previously the longest serving Minister of Health, is now Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. We applaud Minister Dix for his work over the pandemic and his openness to working with ABLE BC and other industry associations to protect BC's hospitality businesses.
ABLE BC has sent letters of congratulations to Premier Eby and each Minister, and we encourage industry to reach out as well. You can find MLA and Minister contact information here.
We are still waiting on mandate letters for each Minister and if there will be changes to portfolios. We will provide further updates as they are available.
