Dear ABLE BC members and industry colleagues,
Earlier today, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that tariffs have been paused for 30 days. Later, Premier Eby announced that all non-tariff measures are also paused. Including pulling certain US-made liquor from BCLIQUOR Store shelves and halting importation of some US-made liquor.
Eby stressed that government will spend the next 30 days preparing for the potential return of tariff threats, and that BC will be ready to immediately employ expanded and deepened measures, if needed.
This is a time of great uncertainty and fear for many businesses and British Columbians. ABLE BC will continue to support industry and push for policy, like licensee-to-licensee sales and removing internal trade barriers, that strengthen liquor and hospitality businesses.
Today, we invited our members and industry colleagues to join an Industry Townhall with ABLE BC, the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCRFA), the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB), and others this Wednesday at 10:00 am. We know you still have questions about the paused non-tariff measures and what could happen in the next month, so the Industry Townhall will proceed as planned.
As I said in my message yesterday, this is a challenging and uncertain moment.
In the face of uncertainty, know that ABLE BC is in your corner. We are fighting for you.
Together, we are #TeamCanada.
