Uber and Lyft launch in Vancouver
On January 24, Uber and Lyft ride-hailing services finally launched in Vancouver.
Lyft is currently limiting where it will be operating. For now, the app’s users can only hail a ride in the core of Vancouver, at the PNE, and at Vancouver International Airport.
Uber is kicking off with a much larger service area, including the entirety of the cities of Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, New Westminster, the Tri-Cities, and most of North Vancouver, Surrey, and West Vancouver.
Whistle was also approved to operate ride-hailing services in the Whistler and Tofino areas.
TappCar has submitted an application to operate across Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Kootenays and Cariboo regions.
As a long-time member of the Ridesharing Now Coalition, ABLE BC is pleased to see this significant step forward in bringing ride-hailing to BC. We are also excited for the positive impact these services will have on our Liquor Primary members.
