Urgent Update: Permanent Food Delivery Fee Cap
Dear ABLE BC Members and Industry Colleagues,
We are pleased to share with you that government has introduced legislation that, if passed, will make permanent the cap on fees charged by food delivery companies.
The suggested permanent cap would limit these companies to a 20 per cent charge per order for core services (online ordering and delivery) and an option to pay for additional services like increased marketing and device rental.
Food delivery companies would also be prohibited from reducing driver pay to make up for the fee cap.
Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, made the announcement earlier today noting "By introducing legislation allowing us to convert the delivery fee cap from temporary to permanent, we are able to provide more certainty to the sector and to delivery drivers."
This legislation is in direct response to advocacy from both ABLE BC and the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCRFA). We are grateful to Minister Kahlon and the BC government for understanding the concerns of BC's hospitality and liquor businesses and supporting industry as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
