B.C. halts sale of Russian liquor products

This afternoon, Mike Farnworth, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, announced further details of the British Columbia’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

As of today, B.C. will “put an immediate halt to the importing and sale of Russian liquor products from our BC Liquor Stores and provincial liquor distribution centres.”

The B.C. government is also contributing $1 million to the Red Cross to support the people of Ukraine who are suffering from this illegal act of war.

As an association, ABLE BC supports the decision of our BC government partners to condemn the unprovoked aggression of Russia’s government. We wanted to advise you that, while you are not obliged to discontinue carrying Russian products, some of your customers may react negatively to seeing Russian products on your shelves at this time. It will also be impossible to restock Russian brands from LDB Wholesale indefinitely.

We know members will make the best decision for themselves and their customers.

Should you wish to discuss the situation further, please feel free to contact ABLE BC's Executive Director, Jeff Guignard, at jeff@ablebc.ca.
